Bluetooth™ Testing and Qualification Services

Introduction

An experienced Bluetooth™ Qualification Body (BQB) is available at TUV Rheinland of North America, Inc. to serve client needs to qualify and list Bluetooth™ hardware and software components and products. Please view our Bluetooth™ Qualification Procedure.

TÜV Rheinland Group has been a leader in the field of Bluetooth™ testing and certification in Asia, the location of the most important Bluetooth™ market. Our facilities in Japan and Taiwan are BQTF accredited by the BQRB, and offer a comprehensive range of testing and certification including RF, Baseband, Link Manager, Protocol stack, and Profiles. In addition, Korea and Hong Kong offer similar capabilities. Manufacturers with testing and qualification needs can outsource qualification of Bluetooth™ products to any of our facilities.

How to List a Bluetooth™ Product?

topback to top

An overview of procedures related to Bluetooth™ testing and listing projects is available through TUV Rheinland. It is not designed to amend or replace officially published information from Bluetooth™ SIG, such as, but not limited to, the Licensing and Trademark regulations published in the Bluetooth™ Brand Book, or the Qualification Program Reference Document (PRD 1.0). For detailed information please refer to the official Bluetooth™ Website at www.bluetooth.org.

The most important prerequisite to any qualification and listing is for a company to be a Bluetooth™ "Promoter," "Adopter," or "Associate" member. The related adopters or associate agreements need to be up-to-date. For listings, either a copy or a web-based reference to that agreement is required.

Bluetooth™ Tests are Classified According to Category A, B, C, or D.

topback to top
  • Cat. A: Tests need to be done at an accredited BQTF (Bluetooth™ Qualified Testing Facility), such as our TUV Rheinland Japan and Taiwan facilities.
  • Cat. B: Tests can be done by the SIG member as well as at any capable laboratory. Test evidence is required for the compliance folder. TUV Rheinland Japan and Taiwan facilities offer comprehensive testing services.
  • Cat. C: Tests can be done by the SIG member as well as at any capable laboratory. Test evidence is not required in the compliance folder, but the member has to provide a declaration that the product meets the requirements.
  • Cat. D: These tests are not required and included in the testing specification for information only.

Upon listing, the following information is published by the BQB on the official Bluetooth™ Website:

Varied information is required for each project step. All documents can be submitted before the preparation of the test plan. Depending on client preferences, the necessary documents can also be prepared on a step-by-step base. All documents, with the exception of the Declaration of Compliance, can be submitted electronically or as a hardcopy.

1) First set of documents, necessary before preparation of the test plan

  • Bluetooth™ Implementation Conformance Statement ICS, Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement PICS, and Profile Implementation Conformance Statements Profile-ICS for all applicable protocols and profiles (available on www.bluetooth.org). Copies of PICS from pre-qualified components are not acceptable.
  • Identification of qualified components, if utilized
  • Block or System diagram
  • In case of hardware-based devices and components, additional documentation requirements apply
  • Product Specification
  • For product families: Number of product variations and their differences
  • Planned listing date

2) Second set of documents, necessary before testing starts

  • Before testing, it is important to provide the most up-to-date ICS, PICS and Profile-ICS. In case there are modifications, please inform us. All test planning is based on the information in these documents. Changes in ICS, PICS or Profile ICS may and often do lead to changes in the test plan; qualification decisions will be affected accordingly.
  • In case ICS, PICS, or Profile-ICS have changed, final version of these documents
  • Operating instructions or description on how to operate the control interface(s) and software (or API)
  • After testing, the test results and the test report

3) Final set of documents necessary to complete the compliance folder

  • Latest Declaration of Compliance (DoC) (available on www.bluetooth.org) with original signature. Copies, facsimile or electronic files are not acceptable for this document.
  • Reference Design Application Note (only required for components, need to conform to TUV Rheinland's test plan)
  • Parts List, if applicable
  • Pattern Layout of all layers, if applicable
  • Component Layout, if applicable
  • Schematics, if applicable
