Management Systems Standards

Origin - Management systems standards originated in the post-WWII defense industry, building upon the numerous material specifications that were developed during the war. The requirement for systematic quality was recognized by governmental defense agencies as defense technology became increasing complex and sophisticated. All of the management system standards in place today can be traced to the quality system standards (e.g., MIL-Q-9858, MIL-I-45208) that came out of the international defense community in the mid-20th century.

TÜVRheinland® is a highly respected registrar with recognition and accreditations in every region of the world. This is important to those companies that need to do business worldwide and need a registrar that has a recognized accreditation in those regions. To assure this, TÜVRheinland® employs the best-qualified auditors who add value at every visit, promote a partnership approach, focus on business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.

Accreditation

Definition - In the management system standard context, accreditation refers to the formal recognition by a specialized body - an accreditation body - that a certification body such as TRNA QRS is competent to carry out management system certification in specified business sectors. In simple terms, accreditation is like certification of the certification body. Certificates issued by accredited certification bodies may be perceived on the market as having increased credibility.

Accreditation Bodies - Accreditation Bodies are, in most cases, non-governmental organizations established to oversee the Certification Bodies in a particular country or region. The oversight of the Accreditation Bodies provides credibility to the activities of the accredited Certification Bodies such as TRNA QRS. The Accreditation Bodies also help to ensure consistency in standard interpretation, audit time, and auditing process. Ultimately, the Accreditation Bodies increase the value of a management system certificate in the marketplace.

Value of Accreditation - According to ANSI/ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB), which is the American Accreditation Body, accreditation has the following value to the consumers/users of management system certification:

  • Builds confidence and reduces risks to customers
  • Facilitates trade globally
  • Potential to reduce costs by enhancing acceptance of certificates worldwide
  • Provides a mechanism to address complaints

TRNA QRS Accreditations - TRNA QRS is accredited to perform management systems certification by the following Accreditation Bodies:

  • American: ANAB - ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (formerly RAB)
  • German: TGA/DAR/TUV CERT
  • Canada: SCC

TRNA QRS also has access to more than 25 additional accreditations from TUV Rheinland Group affiliates worldwide.
